CMS Announces New Place of Service Code
Effective January 1, 2022, a new place of service (POS) code became effective for use. The new POS Code, 10, indicates Telehealth services provided in the patient’s home. Prior to the creation of POS 10, the correct place of service code for all Telehealth visits was 2.
Now, the two POS codes will indicate that Telehealth services were provided, but in different environments.
Place of Service 2: Telehealth Provided Other than in Patient’s Home. Use this code when the patient is not located in their home when receiving health services. This can mean the patient is at work, in the car or even in a hospital bed.
Place of Service 10: Telehealth Provided in Patient’s Home. Use this code when the patient is located in a private residence, that is not a facility setting.
